A great way to weave and repurpose leather.
Having made mini books and leather journals for a few years I have a stash of scraps of leather. Most came from thrift stores and are deconstructed purses, wallets, boots, belts, brief cases and some vintage men's shoes. Look around for bargains and a thick small piece will be easiest to work with. This piece was not as thick as I wanted but was able to punch holes with a paper punch. The back was measured and marked the back with felt tip pen.

A mixture of fibers waxed linen thread used for the warp, a little ball of unknown yarn and bamboo thread. I will mention I haven't had much luck with bamboo thread and I don't know if it's me but the thread ply always seems to unwind or come apart? Comment below if you have any ideas. I clamped some card board to the top and bottom of the leather while weaving to give it a little more stability.

Added a little bunch of redwood fiber after weaving as an after thought but I am pleased with it.

Using a block from an old project I first planned to nail it on with rug tacks but once I trimmed the sides I was not confident enough to try it. So leather glue was what I had so I went ahead with that. Am not too sure how it will last but I will re-glue with something stronger if it comes off.Quite the set up I know. This little Irish souvenir my son brought me from Ireland has brought me much luck in many a project! I applied the glue to the leather just behind the weaving. Clamped some cardboard to the outer edges of the leather hoping to train it flat and left it overnight hoping not to flatten the weaving too much.

So far so good with the glue. A small hole drilled in back allows for hanging or sits nicely on your desk or book shelf.
