Last Project of Winter

Yesterday I celebrated the last day of winter using some of my felted wool sweater for a little pouch.

Knowing I had to protect the wool from further damage I wanted to try a little pouch before sealing it up and putting it away.
These cut outs are from the front neckline. I originally cut it so the back so it would fold over and button shut but the button holes also shrank. It became too difficult to open and close so I had to change it up.

I knew I wanted to try the blanket stitch but the thread I had seemed too thin and the walls of the pouch so thick. Having just found some DMC wool thread at the thrift store luckily I picked up this lovely green. My first time using the blanket stitch, not perfect but I'm ok with it, at least I got a little experience.

Now what to do for a closure? I started to look through some leather cords but no black but I did have red! Threaded my largest needle with the leather cord and just poked right through the back behind where the button sits and out the back from behind the other button. So easy!

There's always lessons to be learned in every project. For me I will try to felt a solid color sweater as the black and white are starting to mesh together as gray in the handling. Also I need more practice on my blanket stitch.
This will be a pouch for someone's holiday present next winter. Now onto spring!
